Christmas Pillows

couch pillows

I absolutely love having seasonal pillows on the couch.  For fall I made some embroidered pillows and I knew I was going to do something similar for Christmas but I wasn’t exactly sure what.  I had seen some Merry & Bright pillows on Pinterest and also some O Holy Night ones.

I kind of knew the look I wanted and so I went and printed them out from fonts on my computer (after flipping them), then doing the old grade school pencil method of transferring.  Probably not the most efficient method but it works.

I then painted the pillows how I wanted them.  For pillow forms I found that Hobby Lobby has $5 pillow shams that sometimes go 50% off and then for $2.50 that is worth it to me.  Plus they fit with the room.

Easy Fabric Pumpkins

I love to decorate the middle of my table according to the season.  For fall I was thinking about just buying some pinecones but that seemed too easy and pinecones aren’t readily available in South Texas so I’d have to buy them and I didn’t really feel like doing that.  I had purchased this adorable fabric from JoAnn’s at half off ($2.50 a yard) and thought it would make the cutest pumpkins.  I used this tutorial from Martha Steward to get started.

I finally added the stems on them the other day and I love how they turned out.  They definitely liven up my table.  :)

Embroidered Fall Pillows

Happy first day of October!  I have a pretty neutral living room and have had just plain pillows on the couch.  I decided I wanted to decorate the plain pillows for the seasons.  The pillows are actually cases over pink pillows that I had previously, definitely do not match the current living room.  I purchased the covers at Hobby Lobby for $2.50.  They are originally $5.00 and sometimes have them on sale for 1/2.  I could barely purchase the zipper for that price.

I didn’t have a template for the writing but just wrote freehand with a pencil on the pillow and embroidered the “in all things give thanks.”  I cut the leaves out of different fabric that I had after I printed some leaves templates.  I drew the pumpkin freehand and then embroidered around the pumpkin.

I really like how they came out and cannot wait to do them for Christmas!

Patriotic Table Runner

Patriotic Table Runner

I love having a table runner on my table and I love changing it out depending upon the season.  I have been behind for on finishing this (I missed Memorial Day, oops!) but I was able to put it together this week and I really like how it turned out!  I added the white ruffle not only to give it a little bit extra, but because it would have been way to short without it! I used left over red fabric I had and didn’t want to go buy anymore :)  I added the blue (can’t really tell that in the picture) stars stamped on with paint to give it some blue and more of a Patriotic feel.

Best way to make easy stamps?  Potatoes of course! Thankfully I didn’t have to just guess and cut out a star but had a cookie cutter in the perfect star shape that cut through the potato easily.

At first I was just going to stamp them and let them be how they were, but for OCD me that was a little too rough.  So once I had the stars down I took my paint brush and individually painted them in.  I think they look much better that way!

Much better!  I love how the table cloth turned out.  I was thinking of writing across the whole thing (long ways), Land of the Free or something similar but I just can’t decide.  What do y’all think?
