Please be careful with your pets!

Okay, I’ll be honest this is not a pretty post but I want to make as many people aware of this as possible!  I have mentioned before I am quite the animal lover.  Personally I have Pancake but our family has a few other dogs (& cats).  My sister has two adorable puppies named Buffett and Isla.  They are Boxer/Great Pyrenees Mixes that my sister and her husband adopted.  Serious cuteness….

This is a picture of them when they were just a couple weeks old in October.  Now, just for reference the picture below was taken a few weeks ago in the same bed.  Obviously they love each other to pieces and are much, much bigger!  Anyway, they are always eating and playing and getting into everything.

Anyway, they noticed that Buffett wasn’t feeling very well.  He was always eating a ton and then all of a sudden he wasn’t eating and was throwing up.  On Thursday they took him to the vet where he was given fluids and some x-rays but they still couldn’t find anything.  The vet wanted to see if he would get better and maybe he would get better during the weekend.  Throughout the weekend he still was not feeling well and hadn’t had anything to eat (and for a dog that was always eating, this was very strange!).  Since he was obviously not getting better Buffett went in for exploratory surgery on Tuesday.  They knew something was wrong with him but didn’t know what.

This was found in Buffett’s intestines.  They had to remove four inches and take this out.  It is a very large squeaker from one of their toys.  Now Kendra said Buffett had some squeakers that he had eaten before and had gotten out but obviously this one was different.  They don’t know how long it was in there but it was stuck in there and Buffett’s body obviously couldn’t get it out himself.  Thank goodness the vet knew where to look and Buffett stayed over night two nights and came home on Thursday.

Buffett on his car ride home from the vet.  He was very happy to finally be heading home to see his family and his sister!

Please be careful with your pets and their toys.  If you notice that your animals tend to eat everything in their sight please watch them to make sure they are not eating the squeakers.  Chloe (my mom’s dog) loves her squeakers but she pulls them out and doesn’t actually eat them, Buffett is obviously a little different.
