Bow Belts

I saw these adorablebow belt buckles in the craft store a while back and thought they would make adorable belts.  The top one is a rose gold and then the bottom on is a black (Dritz brand).  I had 50% off coupons and purchased both of them (normally $7.99 each).  The pink & black is a thick fold over elastic (Dritz brand, $2.99- they have new designs, and come 1 yard in a package) and then 5/8″ plaited braid trim.  Obviously get the length that you need for your waist and sew them around the buckle.  I had to hand sew the pink braided trim as my sewing machine kept jamming.

Here is the pink and black one.  I thought it looked kind of cute worn off to the side.

I love how they turned out.  Super easy, less than $20 (even if you paid full price!) and looks adorable on a pair of jeans.  I think would also look great on cropped pants but I am too short to wear them :)

Upcycle a Shirt

So I had a shirt that was too big but I LOVED the color.  I decided to fancy it up with some fabric to make it a completely new shirt.  You can also do this with a shirt that is too small and needs more fabric added to it.  Pardon the picture quality, I was doing it myself and didn’t focus it correctly and I cut my head off :)

Since the shirt was now too big, the neck went down a little too far and instead of wearing a tank underneath I added the flower fabric.

This is my favorite part of the shirt.  I brought it all the way up to the top and cut the collar.  I tried making it first by using the original collar but I didn’t like how it looked.

Mad Men “Betty Draper” Dress

I know I have told you how super excited I am about the two hour Mad Men Premier tonight. I wish I lived in the 60′s, it just looks like so much fun! And they have the best clothes! So I decided I needed to make a “Betty Draper” dress. Butterick has Retro ’60s patterns that you can buy at your craft store and I found this one. It was sold out the first time I went to buy it but I went back and was able to get it in my size.

Something similar to this, but with a lower/rounder neckline. I could not find the exact picture I was looking for. I made the dress and then added a headband in the dress fabric :) I am sorry some of the pictures are a little washed out- it was very sunny outside and I applied an antiqued filter… I had to make them look vintage too!

And it is great for spinning!

(Check out the link parties to see where I may link up. I am linking up now though…April 21st….because life has been crazy!)

Silhouette Fun

So I was so excited when I got my Silhouette on Christmas. It was the only thing I wanted and while I haven’t gotten to play with it as much as I would have liked I have been able to make a few things.

Living with Punks had made this awesome shirt a while back and I knew that would be awesome to make with the Silhouette. I actually have had this planned for a few months and bought the shirt a few months ago hoping (praying) I would get my Silhouette so I could make it for my friend.

I put the state in the middle and the star over Evansville (where she is from). Then I added a “Home is where your heart is” graphic. I loved how it turned out. Although, it took forever to iron on the fabric paper and get it to stay down. Any ideas on that or does it always take that long?
