Compassion Sunday: April 21, 2013

Compassion Sunday is coming up on Sunday, April 21st.  What is Compassion?  Compassion International is a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.  I have personally been involved with Compassion since 2005 when I began sponsoring a little 5 year old girl named Maribel from Bolivia.  I was in college and so money was pretty tight but I figured I could make it work.  I knew it was worth it.

I’ll admit my mom was a little skeptical.  I mean, you hear a lot about charities who say they are doing good who don’t really do so but Compassion International has received a four star rating 11 years running with Charity Navigator.  They are completely transparent with their finances and truly are making a difference in the lives of millions of children around the world.  They help more than 1.2 million children in 26 countries  Do you want to help to make it 2 million??

Since beginning my sponsorship with Maribel when she was 5 (she is turning 13 this year!) I have seen her grow from drawing me pictures in her letters to writing me letters in response to my pictures and things I have sent her.  I also started sponsoring Neema in YEAR from Tanzania.  I love reading their letters and finding out details about their lives. I love sharing what is going on in my life and sending them pictures. It is a great feeling to know that I am making a difference in their lives and providing them with not only financial but spiritual support and really being a friend to them even though we live completely different lives.
