Easy to Make Photo Albums

So I made these a little while ago just to hold some random pictures in.  It would be a cute idea to make them for mothers or grandmothers for Mother’s Day.

I just purchased a plastic photo holder (pretty sure it was $1.o0 or $1.99 @ Target) and used some corresponding fabric I had with some interfacing to make a cute photo album.  It took less than 30 minutes to make both of them and would be a great gift.  Even now with everyone having their phones and photos on them all the time I still love having actual pictures!

Notebook Cover

I normally have a notebook that I keep with me for notes, to do lists, quotes and scriptures I hear etc.  I wanted to make a cover for it that was a pretty general size so it could work for other notebooks when my current one is full.  I also wanted to add a ribbon bookmark so that I knew where I was.  I choose to use canvas as I would not have to deal with interfacing and it would be heavier than just plain fabric.

I tend to be a lazy sewer sometimes and just sew without patterns or anything else.  I just cut a rough outline of what I am making and hope for the best!  Here are the front and back pieces and then the two pieces for the inside for the notebook to slide into.

I seamed out the two side pockets

Ready to sew together.  I always need to double check to makes sure I have everything sewn the right way as I have (more often than I would like to admit!) messed up and had to take everything apart.  So I double check.

All done!  I know you can find pretty journals but sometimes you just want a notebook cover instead.  :)

Towel for your head…

Okay, now I am sure some of you (or all of you :) may laugh at me about this but I love the towel wraps that are for your head. I promise wrapping a towel to your head is nothing compared to how nicely this dries your hair. Anyway….

They are kind of expensive for what they are. You can buy cheaper ones but they are microfiber and scratchy and don’t do the job as well. In less than 20 minutes you can make your own. If you have one yard of fabric you can make two of them. Now I am sure you are probably laughing that I actually did this but I make things that are useful and cheap. So here we go….

This is my template that I traced onto my terry cloth. The length was 23.5″ long. You have to fold the terry cloth over to have two sides.

Now you need to have a small piece of elastic (around 4″) to sew at the top of the towel wrap. This will “catch” and hold the tail up.

Here is the elastic pinned in. Make sure to make the loop on the inside because this will be turned inside out after you sew it.

Now, I don’t have any pictures of me sewing but you sew your pieces together and then hem the bottom.

Lovely picture, right? yeah, I can’t believe I am even putting it up here!!

I’m serious, they are amazing!

Mini Journal

Okay, so I am bad at keeping a journal. I just have a problem writing in it everyday and then when I am able to remember to do it my hand starts to hurt. And there is always the feeling of embarrassment when I am writing (does anyone else have that problem?).

Anyway… but I know it is important to write things down each day, to see what I was thinking and be able to look back on how far (hopefully!) I have come. So I decided I would buy a little notebook. I actually bought one from the craft store (50% off!) that is actually a sketch pad. 5″ high and 4″ wide, perfect size to write down 3 things about each day. I could do that. I think I can keep that up! But I didn’t want the cover to be the sketch pad cover, so I took it off the rings and covered it with pretty scrapbook paper. Then I went and laminated that because I couldn’t have my paper getting messed up now, could I?

I know it looks more like the cover for an idea journal or something but nope, it is for a daily one :)

Then each day I do something like this:

Write the date at the top and then 1,2,3 and then fill them in. Even I can do that!!
