A (one of the girls I babysit) decided she wanted to be a flower for Halloween. She wanted insisted that somehow her petals were going to be mad out of cardboard and she wanted a green bottom.
So I set off to the stores. I got her a green shirt from my favorite store, Target as well as the green tutu. I could not find green pants. So I decided A and I were going to make them (and of course I was way too excited! I wish I had little kids I could make clothes for!)
So the next store was JoAnnes where we got a green knit and then a cute contrasting fabric for ruffles (that I insisted she needed. She likes to think it is grass. I just thought it would make it adorable!).
Anyway, I made a pattern using a pair of leggings that fit her well and we sewed them and also added the ruffles.
I also added ruffles to the shirt sleeves and randomly embellished the shirt. For the flower I had not idea how I was going to get cardboard around her face (I was thinking felt and a headband!). So I got the thick floral wire that I made into a circle that fits around her face. We then traced and cut the petals from cardboard and painted them pink. I then cut holes in them and “sewed” to the wire circle using thinner wire.
To hold the flower on the back of her head you can attach a green headband or have ribbon to tie it on each side.
Total cost for a completely unique (and adorable!) costume? Less than $25! Plus it isn’t all the cheap fabric and the leggings can be worn again!
