Sunday Scripture

‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up’

Galatians 6:9

I think when I do Sunday Scripture in the future I am going to make some sort of printable or at least a graphic as I think that would look much nicer :)  Anyway… this is one of my favorite verses.  I don’t know about you but sometimes it is hard to do the right thing.  It is hard to do things the way I know Jesus taught to do them because our world is so broken and we live in the brokenness.  But, it is during the times it is hard that I know how much more important it is to continue doing good, to continue being a disciple here on earth, to continue doing Kingdom work.  I may be the only person to shine the light of Jesus on someone during a day, someone who really needs it and I don’t want to miss that chance because I was frustrated or tired.  We cannot give up when it is tiring, we cannot give up just because we are tired of waiting and in God’s timing we will reap from that harvest.  And even if what I am wanting never comes along any time I spend giving glory to God is always time well spent.

Sunday Scripture

“The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.  Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” – Romans 13:9-10

“Do everything in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:36-40

Love is the greatest commandment.  It is because of love that Jesus died for us.  The Bible mentions love over and over again.  Not only are we to love the people that are easy to love, our friends and our family, the people who love us back.  We are also to love the people that are mean to us, the ones who are difficult to love, the ones who may not love anyone else.  We are to love like Jesus, to be compassionate, forgiving, and love unconditionally.  Yes, we are going to fall short but we bring our weaknesses to God and we continue to love.  We cannot do anything apart from Jesus and that includes loving.  When we abide in Christ we are able to love because Christ is loving through us.

Sunday Scripture

“The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1

This is one of my all time favorite verses.  I keep it on a sticky note on my computer screen at work.  The Lord is my light and my salvation.  God leads the way in my life and it is through Jesus that I am saved.  He is the strength of my life, without Him I am absolutely weak.  There is nothing nor anyone for me to fear with God on my side.  I read this verse often throughout the day, especially if I am feeling discouraged or afraid.  There are lots of verses in the Bible to help us with fear and while we will still have fear the Lord wants us to bring those fears and those troubles to Him.  Let Him be the Light which leads your way.  He doesn’t want you to go at it alone.

Happy Grandparent’s Day!  I can’t be with my grandparents as they live far away but I am wishing them a very happy day.  They are the best grandparents anyone can ask for!

Psalm 33:10-11

The Lord foils the plans of the nations;
he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever,
the purposes of his heart through all generations.

I love when verses just stick out to you when you are in the middle of some quiet time.  You just stumble upon them, verses you may have read multiple times before and at that moment they have a big impact and you may see them in a way you hadn’t read them before.  In verse 10 it seems a negative verse, that God foils and thwarts plans that people and nations have.  If you were to only read that verse it may be discouraging and you may thing, but why would a good and gracious God do that?  But when you read on to verse 11 it makes sense.  But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.  God’s plans are not our plans.  We see it time and time again throughout the Bible.

Isaiah 55:8- “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.

Proverbs 19:21- “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Evil people will exist but their plans will not succeed.
