Laundry Room Frames

IMG_0588

So I have been working on my Laundry Room little by little.  The painting was finally done but it still needed some fun touches.  Like most people I love using printables.  They are absolutely adorable and say just what you  need them to say.  I was going to buy already finished frames and instead I purchased just plain wood frames to paint.  I first painted them a green.  It looked so much better in the bottle than it did once they were on the frames.  Oops!  Had to cover that one up with some black.  It worked out though because you can see some green through the black after I distressed it with a heavy grit sandpaper.  I love the contrast with the light blue and the printables are absolutely perfect!

Burlap Frame Tutorial [Kind of]

So this isn’t really my best tutorial as I realized I did not take pictures of everything.  Actually, I was pretty bad after I got the burlap on.  The pictures didn’t get taken after that.  My apologies!  So the other day in my Gallery Wall Post I mentioned I was going to show a tutorial from making the burlap frame, so here it is.  Although, like I said I did pretty bad on taking my pictures.  Oops!

So I started with just a $1 wooden frame from Michaels.  You can really get them at any of the craft stores but I find that the other ones are not $1 and I tend to love the deals, so I went for Michaels.  I  used spray glue to glue the burlap in place.  Make sure to glue the frame and not the burlap as that wouldn’t work too well with all the holes ;P  Push down pretty hard.

Now the hard part is getting the edges to fold over.  I spray lots of glue on the edges and then pull the burlap (or fabric) up real tight and use something to push and roll across to get it to adhere to the glue.  I actually tend to use the little wooden piece the frame comes with to hold it up.  I am sure there is a more appropriate way to do this.  :)  You are also going to cut the corners at an angle and fold the sides over.  Now, I really thought I had a picture of this but apparently not!

Now turn the frame over and cut an X in the middle of the hole.  You are going to fold these back.

Now for some reason this is the last picture I took.  You can see what I did to secure the edges though and you can also see how the triangles are folded back.  I put some glue on the frame and pull them as tight as I can.

I then got my sharpie out the wrote what I wanted before painting it.  Since I was using burlap I knew the paint was going to be pretty thick.  Then it was still pretty boring so I cut out some flower petals and hot glued them on top of each other until it looked like a flower.  I then added the button in the middle and painted the flower petals pink and green to stand out from the frame.  Very simple project but adds some texture and dimension to the wall.
